I work with students of all ages and levels, with a special focus on working with elementary aged children. I was raised a “Suzuki kid” and base my teaching in Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy that “Every Child Can!” learn to play an instrument. I think that the ideas of Suzuki teaching are fantastic and incorporate Suzuki materials and common phrases in my own teaching. That being said, if you’re looking for a traditional Suzuki teacher, I am NOT the teacher for you! I recommend checking out the Suzuki Association of the Americas or the British Suzuki Association if you’re looking for a “classic” Suzuki teacher. 

Why the distinction? Honestly, because I spend so much time teaching non-Suzuki repertoire! I rarely take my students through the Suzuki material in a linear fashion. We spend a lot of time playing fiddle tunes from Fiddle and Song, pieces from Music By Black Composers, Violin Music By Women and from the ABRSM repertoire lists. That doesn’t count scales, technique, orchestra or chamber music, and student directed pieces. There’s just so much to work on!
